On the first day of our 10-day Fes tour, we will be exploring the best parts of Fes. Fes is a very important city in Morocco for its culture and religion, and it is one of the great cities of yesteryear. First thing in the morning, we start at the Royal Palace gate. Then, we will explore the super old part of the city, called the Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your local guide will show you around. We will start at the Blue Gate, called Bab Boujloud, and then we will wander through a bunch of small streets. We will visit cool places like the tanneries, the Najjarine Fountain, and the Medersa Bouanania. And don’t forget the Quaraouin mosque and university, which is the oldest university! After that, we will leave the Medina and visit the Jewish quarter, also called “the Mellah.” In the afternoon, we will go to an old fortress to get a breathtaking view of the city. Finally, we will return to where we are staying, called Riad.
After breakfast in your riad, we head towards a place called Ifrane, passing through a village called Imouzzer. Ifrane is special because it is very cold, it snows, and it has houses that look like those in the mountains of Switzerland. Then, we go to a forest where monkeys called Barbary macaques live. You can feed them and walk around the forest. After that, we go to a village called Midelt, where we have some free time for lunch. Then, we drive towards another desert of Merzouga through a pass and along a valley with stops to see nice views. In the afternoon, we reach the Sahara desert in Merzouga. Here, we ride camels and cross the sand desert. We stop at a high sand dune to watch the sunset. Finally, we go to a camp, which is a mix of nomad tents and a luxury hotel. There, you can listen to Berber drum music, dance around a campfire and admire the stars in the open sky. Dinner and overnight at the camp.
After breakfast, our next stop is Kalaa Magouna to visit the Valley of Roses. If you are lucky enough to visit in May, you might find the Rose Festival where locals sell rose-related products such as cosmetics, rose water, oil and perfumes. Then, we drive through the palm groves of Skoura and arrive at Ouarzazate where we visit the film studios used for famous productions. Next, we explore the famous Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. This Kasbah has appeared in movies such as Gladiator, Alexander and The Mummy, and in TV shows such as Game of Thrones. After that, we drive through the High Atlas Mountains and the Tizi-N-Tichka Pass on our way to Marrakech. We will stop for lunch and take photos at prominent locations. Spend the night in a Marrakech riad.
In the morning, after a delicious breakfast at your riad, you’ll immerse yourself in the heart of Marrakech with a friendly local guide. We’ll check out palaces fit for kings and queens (Bahia Palace), explore ancient tombs (Saadian Tombs), and get lost in the vibrant labyrinth of Morocco’s largest market (souk). You’ll have some free time for lunch near Jemaa El-Fna Square. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the Koutoubia Mosque, the largest in Marrakech, and the beautiful Majorelle Garden. Finally, we’ll transfer you to your accommodation. Feel free to explore Jemaa El-Fna on your own and soak up the lively atmosphere of the square.
Today we head to Essaouira, a charming coastal town that runs through the Argan Valley. Essaouira is known for its small squares, ramparts, fortifications and historical monuments. Along the way, we will make stops to see the famous goats in the argan trees and enjoy panoramic views. Upon arrival in Essaouira, formerly known as Mogador, we explore one of the most important coastal towns in Morocco. Our visit includes the fishing port, the ancient ramparts with cannons and a walk through the old Medina. Overnight in Essaouira.
After breakfast, we leave Essaouira and travel along the coast towards Casablanca. You will explore the economic capital of Morocco. Our first stop is the Hassan II Mosque, the largest in the country. It is right by the Atlantic Ocean, and we will have some free time for lunch. After that, we will explore the city and admire the beautiful Casablanca Corniche. Then, we will drive to Rabat for an overnight stay.
In Rabat, you'll explore the highlights of the Moroccan capital, including the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Kasbah of Oudaya. You'll have some free time for lunch.
