How we travel

Morocco private tours with a driver

Our Morocco private tours work in a simple way: the vehicle and the driver are for your group only. No strangers, no fixed departure dates, and a route you can adjust before you book. Morocco Trips has run private tours with a driver since 2004, in air-conditioned 4x4s and vans, with drivers who speak English.

This page covers what hiring a private driver in Morocco involves, how local guides fit in, what a Morocco trip costs and how booking works.

Private tour or group tour: what’s the difference?

On a group tour you share a coach or minibus with people you don’t know, departures run on fixed dates and everyone follows the same programme. On a private tour, the trip is built around you.

Private tourGroup tour
Who’s in the vehicle Just your group Other travellers
Departure date Whenever you choose Fixed dates
Timings and stops Agreed with your driver Set by the programme
Route Adjusted before you book Fixed
Pick-up At your hotel or riad Depends on the operator

All our tours are private, including the 2- and 3-day ones. If there are two of you, the vehicle is for two.

The vehicles: air-conditioned 4x4s and vans

You travel in a 4x4 or a van, always with air conditioning. It makes a real difference in summer, in the south and on the long driving days: some stages cross the High Atlas, the kasbah valleys and the road down to the desert.

  • The same vehicle and driver They stay with you from stage to stage, luggage included.
  • Stops when you want For photos, lunch or a break: you decide with your driver.
  • Pick-up every morning Your driver collects you at your accommodation.

Whether it’s a 4x4 or a van depends on how many of you there are and on the route.

An English-speaking private driver

Our drivers speak English, Spanish, French or Italian. Tell us your language when you book and you’ll travel with a driver who speaks it.

  • Knows the route

The roads and villages along the way: your driver explains what you’re passing.
  • Manages each stage

The timing of each day and where to stop for lunch.
  • A local guide in the medinas

Walking visits of the Fes and Marrakech medinas are led by a local guide, as explained below.

Private tour guides in Fes and Marrakech

On the tours that include a visit to Fes or Marrakech, you explore the city with a local guide. In Fes: the Fes el-Bali medina, its craft souks and madrasas. In Marrakech: the Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs, the Ben Youssef Madrasa and the souks. You don’t need to find or hire anyone yourself: the visit is part of the tour.

Each tour’s itinerary shows which days are guided. Local guides lead the city visits; for the rest of the trip, you’re with your driver.

Hiring a private driver in Morocco: what to ask

Whoever you book with, a few questions avoid surprises later:

  • Who is the company?

Ask for its name and registration. We are MOROCCO TRIPS NET SARL AU, a tourist transport company in business since 2004, registered in Errachidia and based in Hassi Labiad, near Merzouga.
  • Is the vehicle really private?

With us, always: no other travellers join.
  • What language does the driver speak?

Ours speak English, Spanish, French or Italian.
  • What exactly is included?

Accommodation, guided visits, meals: each of our tour pages lists what is and isn’t included.
  • How do booking and cancellation work?

We explain our terms on WhatsApp before you confirm anything.

More about us on the about us page.

How much does a private driver in Morocco cost?

We don’t publish a fixed price list, because every private tour is priced for its dates and its group. Send us your details on WhatsApp and we’ll reply with a quote, with no obligation. What moves the price most:

  • Group size

The vehicle and driver are shared by your group, so the cost per person drops as the group grows.
  • Accommodation

The hotels and riads you choose.
  • Season

Easter, Christmas and New Year are in high demand.
  • Days and route changes

More days, more driving or an extra night change the total.

To work out your overall Morocco trip cost, add flights (never included) and your own spending: meals that aren’t included, drinks, souvenirs and tips. When you compare quotes, check what each one covers: a cheaper offer may leave out guided visits or put you far from the medina.

Private driver or rental car?

A rental car gives you freedom and usually costs less, but you do the driving. With a driver, you watch the scenery while someone else handles the rest.

If you’re still weighing it up, our guide on getting around Morocco compares rental cars, trains, buses and private drivers.

Is hiring a private driver in Morocco worth it?

If you want to cover several regions without driving yourself, usually yes. Distances are long, mountain roads take concentration and finding parking near the medinas is hard. With a driver you travel door to door, stop where you like and arrive less tired. If you’re on a tight budget and enjoy driving, a rental car is the cheaper option; our getting around guide compares both.

How much does a private driver cost in Morocco?

It depends on the number of days, the route, how many of you there are and the season. We don’t publish fixed rates: message us on WhatsApp with your dates and group size and we’ll send you a price for the whole tour, including accommodation.

How much does a trip to Morocco cost?

Add up three things: flights, the tour itself (driver, vehicle, accommodation and guided visits, which we quote for your dates) and your own spending on the ground. The length of the trip and the type of accommodation make the biggest difference. Our 10-day tours are a good benchmark if you’re planning a longer trip.

Is the driver also a tour guide?

Your driver explains the places along the route and helps with practical things, but walking visits of the Fes and Marrakech medinas are led by a local guide on the tours that include them.

Do the local guides speak English?

Your driver speaks English throughout. The city visits are led by local guides; if the language of the visit matters to you, tell us on WhatsApp when you ask for a price.

Can we add day trips to our tour?

Yes. A day trip to Essaouira or the Atlas Mountains fits easily into a stay in Marrakech, for example. See our day trips and tell us which ones you’d like when you book.

We speak your language

Shall we help you plan your trip?

Tell us your dates, how many of you are travelling and where you’d like to start. We’ll send you a route and a price on WhatsApp.
