Starting in Fes

Morocco tours from Fes

These are our five private tours from Fes, from 3 to 10 days, all with an English-speaking driver. Two of them are a Fes to Marrakech tour through the desert, in 3 or 4 days; there’s also a week around the imperial cities and Chefchaouen, and a ten-day trip up to Tangier.

Why start your trip in Fes

Fes has an airport and is the gateway to the north and the Middle Atlas. From here the Merzouga desert is just one day’s drive away, via Ifrane, the Azrou cedar forest and the palm groves of the Ziz Valley. And since most tours then head south to Marrakech, you cross the country in one direction without doubling back. If you want to see the Fes el-Bali medina, a World Heritage Site, first, the 10-day tour starts with a day in the city with a local guide.

Fes to Marrakech through the desert

A week or ten days from Fes

  • 7 days: Meknes and Volubilis, a night in Chefchaouen, Rabat, Casablanca, two nights in Marrakech, Ait Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate and a night in the desert. It starts and ends in Fes.
  • 10 days: a day in Fes with a guide, two nights in the desert, the Dades, Marrakech, a night in Essaouira, the Atlantic coast via Casablanca and Rabat, Chefchaouen and the finish in Tangier.

We compare them with the others on our 7-day tours and 10-day tours pages; if Fes, Meknes, Rabat and Marrakech are what you’re after, see our imperial cities tours.

What’s the best route from Fes to Marrakech?

If you’re not in a hurry, the southern road trip: the Middle Atlas, the desert and the road of the kasbahs, in 3 or 4 days, turning the transfer into a trip of its own. If you’d rather go direct, our guide on getting around Morocco covers the options.

Do the tours include a visit of Fes?

The 10-day tour starts with a day in Fes with a local guide. The others leave Fes on day one, so if you want to see the city, arrive a day early or add a day to the tour. Ask us on WhatsApp.

How many days do I need for the desert from Fes?

Three, on our tours: the 3-day tour returns to Fes after two nights in the dunes, and the 3-day tour to Marrakech spends one night in the desert and one in the Dades. With four days you get two nights in the desert on the way to Marrakech, and the pace is more relaxed.

Can I start and end in Fes?

Yes: the 3-day tour goes to the desert and back, and the 7-day tour also starts and ends in Fes. Those continuing to Marrakech or Tangier end there; if you need to return to Fes, the itinerary can be adjusted.
