From Spain, by ferry

Morocco tours from Spain: take the ferry, we pick you up in Tangier

Spending time in Spain? Morocco is just across the Strait of Gibraltar. This is how our Morocco tours from Spain work: you take the ferry yourself, we pick you up at the port in Tangier, and from there you travel privately, with a driver who speaks English. It can be a day trip or a 5 to 10-day tour to Casablanca or Marrakech.

The ferry ticket is not included: you buy it yourself. We take care of everything in Morocco: the vehicle and driver, the route and, on the tours, the accommodation.

How a Morocco tour from Spain works

  1. You cross the Strait by ferry

Book your ticket with the ferry company of your choice. The ferry is not included.
  2. We pick you up at Tangier port

Your driver meets you on arrival. When you ask for a price, tell us which ferry you’re on and when it arrives.
  3. You travel privately

In an air-conditioned 4x4 or van, just for your group, with a driver who speaks English.
  4. Back when it suits you

On the day trip we drop you at the port for your return ferry. The tours end in Casablanca or Marrakech.

The ferry: from Tarifa or from Algeciras

From Tarifa, the ferry arrives at the port in Tangier itself, next to the medina. From Algeciras, boats usually go to Tanger Med, a port outside the city: if you’ll be arriving there, message us on WhatsApp before you book and we’ll sort it out with you.

Timetables and fares change with the season and with each ferry company, so check them on their websites. If you’re coming from Málaga, Seville, Cádiz, Gibraltar or the Costa del Sol, allow for the drive to the port too.

Five to ten days? Tours from Tangier

They all start the same way: Tetouan and the Rif hills to Chefchaouen. Then you either stay in the north and the imperial cities, or head down to Marrakech via Fes and the desert.

  • Northern Morocco in 5 days: Tetouan, Chefchaouen, Volubilis, Meknes, Fes and Rabat, ending in Casablanca. The only one without the desert.
  • 5 days to Marrakech, with a night in Fes and a night in the desert.
  • 6 days: adds a full day in Fes with a local guide.
  • 7 days: two nights in the desert.
  • 10 days: the same at an easy pace, with two nights in Marrakech.

Compare them in more detail on our tours from Tangier page. Every tour can be changed: more days, a different route or another finish. See how a custom tour works.

Getting back to Spain

The tours end in Casablanca or Marrakech, both with an airport. If you’d rather go back by ferry, tell us when you ask for a price and we’ll adjust the route to finish in Tangier. You can also make your own way back by train: see our guide to getting around Morocco.

Documents for crossing into Morocco

Crossing the Strait means crossing a border. The documents you need depend on your nationality and the rules can change, so we don’t summarise them here: UK passport holders can check the entry requirements page on GOV.UK; other travellers, their own government’s travel advice or a Moroccan consulate. You’ll find more official links in our guide Is Morocco safe?

WhatsApp
Can you do a day trip to Morocco from Spain?

Yes: our Tangier day trip is designed for it. You cross in the morning, see Tangier, Cape Spartel and the Caves of Hercules, and sail back in the afternoon.

Is the ferry included?

No. You buy the ferry ticket yourself, from the company of your choice. We pick you up at the port in Tangier and take care of the trip in Morocco.

Where do you pick us up?

At the port in Tangier, when your ferry arrives. When you ask for a price on WhatsApp, tell us which ferry you’re on and what time it arrives. If your boat arrives at Tanger Med, check with us before you book.

What documents do I need to cross?

It depends on your nationality. UK passport holders can check the GOV.UK entry requirements; other travellers should check their own government’s advice or a Moroccan consulate.

Do I have to come back to Tangier at the end of the tour?

No: four tours end in Marrakech and one in Casablanca. If you need to get back to Tangier for your ferry, tell us and we’ll adjust the route.

How much does it cost?

It depends on how many of you are travelling, the number of days, the accommodation and the time of year. Message us on WhatsApp with your dates and group size and we’ll send you a price. We also explain the booking and cancellation terms on WhatsApp before you confirm.
