Day trips from Fes

These are our day trips from Fes: Meknes and Volubilis, the blue city of Chefchaouen and the Middle Atlas, with Ifrane and the Azrou cedar forest. All are private, with pick-up from your riad or hotel and a driver who speaks English, Spanish, French or Italian.

Exploring from Fes

Fes makes a good base for northern Morocco. It has an international airport and a medina worth at least a full day, and three very different landscapes are within easy reach: the imperial cities and Roman ruins to the west, the Rif Mountains to the north and the forests of the Middle Atlas to the south.

WhatsApp
What are the best day trips from Fes?

The three classics: Meknes and Volubilis for history, Chefchaouen for the blue city and the Middle Atlas for nature with little driving.

Can I do a day trip from Fes to Rabat or Casablanca?

They aren’t among our day trips: Rabat alone is around 3 hours each way. Both cities are on the route of the 7-day tour from Fes and the 5-day tour from Tangier to Casablanca, which passes through Fes.

Is Chefchaouen worth a day trip from Fes?

It’s doable, and it’s the most popular day trip from Fes, but it means almost 8 hours in the car there and back. If you have time, stay the night: we explain why in our Chefchaouen guide.

Can I go from Fes to Marrakech in a day?

Not as a return day trip: it’s about 6 hours on the motorway each way. Make it part of your trip instead: the 3-day tour from Fes to Marrakech goes via the desert, the Todra Gorge and the Dades Valley.
